Later 19th century large French bronze tazza with central medallion & handles. The central medallion sculpted by Ferdinand Levillain (1837-1905) of Menalcas & Mopsus from Virgil’s “Ecologues”. The background of a grapevine, classical urn on stand & hanging pan pipe, another at the boy’s feet. The philosopher listens to the flute. Masks of Bacchus handles. Probably cast by Barbedienne. Condition commensurate with age and use.
