Mid-19th century Murano “chalcedony glass” paperweight. By Lorenzo Radi Sr. or one of his followers. Handblown. Chalcedony originated among the Romans & Egyptians, was rediscovered in the 15th century in Murano, lost again until Radi with Salviati rediscovered the process in the mid-19th century. Reproducing chalcedony agates, the glass is all opaque & uses many minerals and metals for color. Tiny original indentation bubble. 3.38″ dia. x 3.13″ h.
