Circa 1730-40 George II period wine glass. “Kit-Cat” balustroid form with short drawn trumpet bowl on heavy stem with large knop, raised on rare concial high domed foot. Note the thickness for constant rough tavern use (from which the name derives). Associated with the 18th century Whig watering hold & political club, the Kit Kat in London. The club’s tavern keeper, Christopher Catt, was famous for his mutton pies known as Kit Cats. 2 3/4″ dia. bowl. 6 7/16″ h., 2.75″ dia. foot.
