18th to 19th century framed watercolor Coat of Arms of the Company of Merchant Taylors of the City of York. A guild of freemen since 1273, Charles II granted them a royal charter April 26, 1662. This watercolor coat of arms now in an antique maple frame. It likely hung in the taylor shop of a guild member. The arms are supported by camels (carriers of the silks from the East), the motto is Unity Makes Strength. The ermine lined robes & tent signify royal patronage and the lamp atop wool.
